Mary C. Anderson passed away peacefully in her Cottonwood home on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2012 at the age of 89. Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Mary was married to Charles O. Anderson for more than 46 years until his death in 1991.
She volunteered for 10 years at the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce in the Tourism Office. A traveler and world history enthusiast, Mary was never one to “settle down.” Her passport includes stamps from numerous countries across Europe and the Asia Pacific regions, and she spent a few months exploring New York City in her late 70s.
Mary had a smile and laugh that always lit-up the room. She had many passions. Topping the list was her love for travel, history, playing Bridge, and Hand & Foot Canasta. She was a prolific reader of mystery novels and history books. She took great pleasure in penning her own original poetry (family members all have their personal favorites from her wide collection of poems). Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her family and grandchildren -- and always getting a kick out of her granddaughter’s dog Hank and his antics. Mary is survived by her son, Nicholas C. Anderson, daughter, Katherine L. Woods, 4 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Services will be held in her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa.
