Mobile home at Mabery Ranch destroyed by fire

COTTONWOOD -- A mobile home with numerous wood-frame additions was destroyed Sunday night. The structure with a total space of 4200-square-feet is adjacent and on the grounds of the Blazin' M Ranch. No structures of the supper club were affected, though Chuck Mabery's former ranch house was threatened by exposure.

Cottonwood Fire Chief Mike Casson said the fire was called in about 7:30 p.m. by several reports and was upgraded to a "working fire."

The home is in an area where access was difficult and water supply at a distance. Crews with water tenders from Clarkdale, Verde Valley, Sedona and Camp Verde shuttled water supply from 10th Street and Riverfront Park Drive.

An engine from Jerome also assisted Cottonwood.

Casson said the five-member family that included a husband and wife, daughter and two grandchildren was already out of the mobile home and fire crews helped evacuate several of the six dogs and cats. No one was injured.

It took 45 minutes to knock down the fire and another 45 minutes for complete fire control.
