The University of Arizona V Bar V Ranch headquartered in Rimrock will hold its annual Ranch Explorers Day, Saturday, Aug. 25, at Mahan Park, a meadow on the ranch near Happy Jack, where the cowboys gather and wean the V Bar V Ranch calves every fall.
Spend a day at the ranch, learn what modern day cowboys do, and enjoy a V Bar V Ranch beef barbecue lunch with fresh-from-the-coals Dutch oven cobbler for dessert.
Ranch Explorers Day participants may drive to the site or catch a bus in Prescott, Prescott Valley, Sedona, Cottonwood, or Camp Verde. Transportation is included in the registration fee.
This year, ranch personnel will present "A Snapshot of a Day on the V Bar V Ranch." The program will include details of daily activities on the ranch and a demonstration of techniques used for cattle gathering and handling. A local horse trainer will show how to use your body and breath to control your horse's speed, equipment used on the ranch to evaluate and manage the range will be demonstrated, and you will be able to watch our chuck wagon cook at work.
There will also be opportunities to take a guided native plant walk and to pet farm animals.
Cost to attend Ranch Explorers Day is $30 for adults and $15 for students, and includes lunch and the bus ride. Participants may also drive to the site.
To register or for more information call the V Bar V Ranch office in Rimrock at (928) 567-6954, extension 12, or visit http://ag.arizona.edu/aes/vbarv/ranchexplorersday.html.
