Transient arrested for child molestation

On July 26 at about 11:15 p.m., Cottonwood Police officers responded to the area of West Gila Street in regard to a report of sexual assault involving a child.

Cottonwood Police interviewed the parent of the 9-year-old girl who advised officers that the child may have been sexually assaulted by a friend of the family. The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Jesus Felipe Moreno, a transient living in the area. Cottonwood officers also interviewed the victim in regard to the assault.

At about 2:50 a.m., Cottonwood officers responded to the 800 block of East Mingus Avenue and contacted Moreno. Moreno was transported to the Cottonwood Police Department for questioning. Moreno was subsequently arrested and transported to the Yavapai County Jail.

Moreno is charged with four counts of child molestation as well as dangerous crimes against children. He is being held in the Yavapai County Jail without bond.
