COTTONWOOD -- When the Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District Governing Board meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday, it will ratify its action to move Mountain View Preparatory School from Dr. Daniel Bright School to Tavasci Elementary School. The board also will discuss and may take action on a possible date for the next joint meeting with the Mingus Union School Board and the 2012-2013 school year calendar.
The board will hear reports on the 100th Day ADM numbers and on the 2011 tax credit contributions.
The district's Science Fair winners will begin the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance. The board will give special acknowledgements to the first place winners of the Science Fair.
One agenda item calls for the board to ratify its earlier action to move Mountain View Preparatory School to the campus of Tavasci Elementary for the 2012-2013 school year. On Jan. 17, the board met in special session and agreed to move the International Baccalaureate school to the now closed Tavasci Elementary School. The following day, it was brought to the administration's attention that the MVP item had not been properly noticed on the meeting agenda as an action item. Consequently, the board now must ratify the decision it made during the January meeting for it to become an official action.
The board will discuss possible dates for the next joint board meeting with Mingus regarding shared services, including shared administration positions. During the joint meeting last month, it was mentioned that another joint meeting would be held in March. But when contacted earlier this week, the Mingus Union administrative secretary said no date had been set. She said that with the MUHS superintendent still in the hospital and with spring break coming, it was possible the meeting would be scheduled in April.
A comparison report on the 100th Day average daily enrollment will give the board detailed enrollment numbers for all district schools and the district total for 2010 through 2012 with a projection for the next two years.
The district's total enrollment at the 100-day mark was 2,356 in 2010; 2,150 in 2011; and 2,116 in 2012. The projected 100-day enrollment for 2014 is 2,091.
Another report will give the tax credit donations the district received in total and by each individual school for 2011. The district' total donations for 2011 was $120,765, which is an increase from 2010's total of $77,252. The individual schools' tax credit donations were CES, $37,167; CMS, $45,807; OCS, $15,549; DDB, $8,733; TES, $3,192; and MVP, $10,314.
The board will discuss and may take action to approve the proposed 2012-2013 school year calendar.
The proposed calendar has school starting on Aug. 8, and ending on May 24. Spring break will be March 11 through 15. Winter break will be Jan. 1 through 4. Fall break will be Oct. 8 through 12. The calendar has 180 student days and 5 teacher days for a total of 185 days.
This board meeting will be held in the Cottonwood Middle School gymnasium at 500 E. Mingus Ave. in Cottonwood.
