Eighth-grade promotions Wednesday and Thursday

Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District will have two, eighth-grade promotion ceremonies this week. Oak Creek School in Cornville will promote its eight-grade class at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23. Cottonwood Middle School will promote its eighth-grade class at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 24.

• C-OC District 'School Halls'

The administration of Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District has completed a series of five School Halls, which were designed to give staff members an opportunity to ask questions, share concerns or shine some light on good things.

In a summary, Superintendent Barbara U'Ren said some of the topics covered were salaries, last year's decision to close a campus, Mountain View Preparatory's cost and increased ADM (enrollment).

• District has talent

Cottonwood Elementary School held it annual talent show May 16 with 27 acts with performances in singing, dancing, jump roping, drums and more.

Oak Creek School in Cornville also saw some talented acts and enjoyed a Dessert Auction. The Talent Show and Auction raised more than $1,300 for sports and music programs.

• District preschools

The district's preschool committee is moving forward. Applications for Quality First, funded through First Things First, have been submitted. The applications to Quality First include Oak Creek School's preschool, Dr. Daniel Bright School's special needs preschool and the new Bright Bears Preschool Academy.

A fact sheet for Bright Bears Preschool will soon be available. Families can register their children for Oak Creek's Preschool by calling (928) 634-5109, or for Bright Bears Preschool Academy online at cocsd.schoolfusion.us/.
