Jerome sewer plant vandalized

JEROME -- Jerome Police are investigation who is responsible for vandalizing the Town of Jerome wastewater treatment plant. Early estimates place damages at $15,000 to $20,000 with vandalism to piping, fencing, power panels and other equipment.

The damage occurred last Friday night or Saturday morning to the treatment plant, located in a remote canyon, below the historic cemetery, north of the town.

The contracted wastewater operator discovered the damage when he arrived in the morning.

Sgt. Rusty San Felice of the Jerome Police says the suspects would have to pass through three locked gates to reach the plant operations. Police with the help of the Sheriff's investigators have since, retrieved a lot of trace evidence from the scene of the vandalism . Witnesses also gave police suspect and vehicle information.

San Felice said the plant is not fully operational since the vandalism.
