Interstate rollover

RIMROCK-- A rollover accident, about 8:30 Monday morning, blocked the entire northbound lanes of Interstate 17 at the milepost 296 rest area. Montezuma-Rimrock Fire crews were called to help the two patients, but neither apparently suffered injuries.

If anything about a rollover can be convenient, the accident occurred immediately in front of a DPS-ADOT inspection at the rest area. DPS was able to respond immediately, and ADOT detoured northbound traffic through the rest area, keeping the traffic moving, if slowly.

The driver told rescue crews that the vehicle began to 'shimmy' and he slowed, but at one point, he couldn't control the problem and the vehicle rolled in the lane.

No one was transferred to the hospital for treatment, but the driver was reportedly arrested for alcohol and the vehicle towed. The state highway was reopened within an hour.
