Gallery: Local Patriot Day Activities

Filmmaker Larry Cappeto was on hand to screen an abbreviated 24-minute cut of his documentary, 9/11 Remembered: A Day of Infamy, at an assembly for the students of Cottonwood Middle School on Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance on Tuesday. The Beaver Creek Regional Council joined Montezuma-Rimrock firefighters in commemorating the heroism of the first responders lost in the 9/11 tragedy with a special remembrance on Tuesday morning at the Beaver Creek Golf Course in Rimrock. The Verde Valley Senior Center in Cottonwood held a special lunch program for Patriots Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance on Tuesday, September 11. Mayor Diane Joens, Verde Valley Ambulance EMS Chief Kim Moore, Fire Chief Mike Kuykendall, Fire Marshall/EMT Rick Contreras and Police Commander Gary Eisenga all spoke at the assembly, offering different perspectives on the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and how those events shaped current first responder practices.
