Crime: Breaking up is hard to do

COTTONWOOD -- A woman, 33 years old, and a man aged 43, were both arrested on charges of assault per domestic violence after a mutual argument and brawl in the area of South Camino Real in Cottonwood.

The Cottonwood Police officer, dispatched for a suicide threat, found the woman crying on the side of the road.

Jessica Albin said she and David Blankenship were in the process of breaking up and had been repeatedly fighting and trying to talk it out. She said she had slept in the ball fields overnight. The woman claimed that Blankenship closed the window on her thumb, punched her and pulled her hair during a verbal and physical argument.

She had old bruises, but no visible new bruising, according to the officer's report.

Blankenship denied hitting the woman and said she was having problems with CPS and was suicidal and had a knife with which she threatened to kill herself.

He said they had wrestled having tried to get the knife away. Eventually Blankenship determined the talk was not accomplishing anything and he drove home where police contacted and interviewed him.
