Letter: Thanks for making Verde Shop with a Cop a success
On Saturday Dec. 14, Verde Valley law enforcement agencies participated in the annual Verde Shop with a Cop event. This is an event where officers are paired with a child and they take them shopping at Wal-Mart for the holiday season. To start off the big day, Brandi's Kitchen graciously hosted breakfast for the children and their law enforcement partners. After breakfast, everyone headed to the airport to pick up Santa, who flew in on a helicopter thanks to Guardian Air. Santa led the convoy of law enforcement vehicles to Wal-Mart. We want to thank Graham Robertson of Graham's Integrity Auto for allowing us to escort Santa Claus in a stylish Chrysler convertible. This year we had approximately 30+ kids participate and each child received $150.00 to shop for the holidays.
I would like to thank the officers from the following law enforcement agencies for participating in this year's Verde Shop with a Cop; Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, Clarkdale PD, Camp Verde Marshal's Office, Department of Public Safety, Yavapai Apache PD, Sedona PD, State Parks, Forest Service, Arizona Rangers and Cottonwood PD. Most of the officers were big kids themselves that day.
A special thanks to all of the Cottonwood officers and employees who participated- Chief Jody Fanning; Detective Chad Sinn; Officers Clint Combs, Corby Rice, Roger Scarim, Ashley Sinn, Matt Watson, Tate Stearley, Dan Laube, Kiedi Dever and Cory Shilling and his K9 partner, Jax; Communications Specialist Jennifer Noss and Volunteers Jack Bedwell, Bill Tinnin, Ruth Flynn and Edna Ahrens and Cottonwood PD Explorers. Everyone who participated volunteered their time and some of them worked the night before. This says a lot about their character and what is important to them.
I also want to thank Brandi's Kitchen for providing breakfast, Civil Air Patrol for helping land Santa at the airport, Mingus Union High School cheerleaders for wrapping presents, Cottonwood PD Citizen Academy Alumni and all of the volunteers who helped throughout the year during our fundraisers and those who helped during the big event - your help was greatly appreciated.
Thanks to Mayor Diane Joens for taking time out of her busy schedules to come play for the day and taking lots of pictures. Huge thanks to Wal-Mart for not only allowing us to take over their store but for their generous financial contribution. This year Verde Shop with a Cop also received generous donations from Yavapai-Apache Nation Tribal Police Department, Arizona Rangers, and numerous private donors. We could not have the success we have with Verde Shop with a Cop if it weren't for the donations.
I also want to extend a special thanks to Toys for Tots. Each year they provide toys for all of the children we receive applications for; whether the children are chosen or not AND for all of their siblings. Each year Verde Shop with a Cop receives numerous applications for children in the Verde Valley but we unfortunately cannot take all of them. Toys for Tots steps in and makes sure the children who were not selected also receive toys.
Verde Shop with a Cop sincerely appreciates that- thank you Keith & Krys Vogler, Debbi Segall and everyone else from Toys for Tots. And of course, I cannot forget to thank Santa Claus for taking time out of his busy day to spend time with the children.
This Year's Verde Shop with a Cop was one of the most successful but only because of the generous people who live in the great communities of the Verde Valley, thank you.
