National Night Out returns in August

COTTONWOOD -- The ever-popular National Night Out returns to the Cottonwood Kids Park is coming soon. The community-police awareness-raising event across the United States is held the first Tuesday of August; this year Aug. 6. It is always a community event, full of food, and fun activities for the kids and adults.

This year's event is the 30th anniversary for America's Night Out against crime.

NNO is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts.

Come see the display of PANT (Partners Against Narcotic Trafficking) and the Verde Valley SWAT team.

Held annually since 1984, National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada.

The introduction of National Night Out, "America's Night Out Against Crime," began an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Come hungry, there is plenty to eat for free: enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers, pop corn, snow cones, pop, water and juice.

There are also lots of activities for adults as well as the kids, including bounce houses and other delights.

It is all on display from 5:30 until 8 p.m.
