Dr. Daniel Bright Elementary School Principal Nancy Erickson gave a tour of the new Bright Bears Preschool to the First Things First Yavapai Regional Partnership Council and First Things First CEO Rhian Evans Allvin April 24.

First Things First has awarded a $65,000 grant to Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District for the expansion of the Bright Bears Preschool. These funds will go towards purchasing curriculum materials, acquiring new playground equipment, and enabling the school to serve up to 30 more young children.

Studies show that children who attend quality preschool have better math, language and social skills, and are better prepared for kindergarten. "By expanding the preschool, we will improve the academic strength of our kindergarten classes, improving our school's academic rigor," said Principal Nancy Erickson.

"We are proud to bring more opportunities to the young children of the Yavapai Region," said Dr. Kathy Watson, Chair of the First Things First Yavapai Regional Partnership Council. For more information about First Things First, please visit www.azftf.gov
