Fly-by for Funds at Oak Creek School

From preschool to eighth grade, all 230 of Oak Creek School's students and about two dozen teachers spelled "OCS" on the Cornville soccer field early Friday morning.

Title 1 teacher Brian Lewis was going to be flying from Cornville to Colorado, so secretary and PTO president Krista Cowgill organized the impromptu photo-op. As Lewis flew by, he took pictures of the kids, faculty and staff that will be sold to raise money for the school.

The photo will be sold at the school's 33rd annual old time country fair on Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"The opportunity was there, and so we did it," Cowgill said. "We will probably use it as a fundraiser and put it into our office so that years from now, people can come back and say, "I was in that photo.'"

With only a day to decide how to corral 230 children on a soccer field just before 8 a.m., Cowgill said, the field was painted to show students where to go and the 7th and 8th graders helped the younger kids find their places.

"It actually went very smoothly," she said.
