The Cornville Historical Society is pleased to announce that singer-songwriter Dan Engler will present a program of folk music titled "Simply Stated and Simply Played", at the Society's eighth annual holiday fundraiser at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, December 7, at Oak Creek School, 11490 East Purple Sage Road in Cornville.
The event will feature the popular holiday gift basket raffle, which has become a local tradition; and a big array of holiday refreshments. All proceeds will support the Cornville Historical Society.
Engler will perform his original folk music and traditional songs; and he will talk about folk music origins and his song-writing process. His story-telling songs reflect his life experiences and observations over the past 40 years in Arizona. He combines wit, wisdom and a knack for expressing real-life truths; and his straight-forward guitar playing adds a folksy counterpoint to his "down home" lyrics. Dan is an avid student of music and the icons of folk, rock and blues.
"My music is simply stated and simply played," said Engler. "My songs are stories; and I hope listeners can relate them to some aspect of their own life."
Engler is a Cornville resident and editor for Verde Valley Newspapers. "Dan's 28 years of news experiences in the Verde Valley are sure to influence his stories," said Society President Judy Miller. "This is a great opportunity to showcase his talent in his home territory. It will be fun to learn more about the history of folk music and listen for references to our local history, as well."
