Cottonwood Public Library Summer Reading Program a Success

Every year the Cottonwood Public Library puts on the Summer Reading Program (SRP) in which hundreds of children participate.

This program nurtures reading and learning in the community's young people through the use of arts, crafts, science projects, presentations, contests and more.

The theme of this year's SRP was Fizz Boom Read for Juveniles and Tiny Tots and Spark a Reaction for the Teens.

There was a total of 335 kids who participated and they read a total of 1,998 hours. The breakdown is as follows: 188 Juveniles read 1,037 hours; 54 Teens read 633 hours; and 93 Tiny Tots read 328 hours.

There were many crafts associated with the program, including making volcanoes, anemometers, and balloon-powered cars.

Presentations included Cottonwood Public Safety's high tech toys and baking cookies in home-made solar ovens made from pizza boxes.

The Summer Reading Program would not be possible if not for the help of sponsors. This year's sponsors include Little Caesars, Vinnie's New York Pizza, Country Bank, Walmart, Betty's Attic, Adventure's Unlimited, Cottonwood Bookmarks, Joyce Read, Red Rock Balloon Adventures, Kyle Smith and a donor wishing to remain anonymous. Many thanks to those sponsors for making the Cottonwood Public Library Summer Reading Program a success.
