Verde Valley Medical Center is committed to staying on the cutting-edge of medical care. VVMC is the first hospital in Arizona to participate in both the REVEAL and ACCELERATE studies, which are affiliated with the University of Oxford in England; Harvard University; and Duke University.

These trials are aimed at increasing HDL (good) cholesterol and decreasing LDL (bad) cholesterol in patients.

More than 40,000 people worldwide, including more than 150 local patients, are participating in the research.

"These new drugs have the potential to significantly change the way we treat high cholesterol," said Samuel Butman, M.D., interventional cardiologist and director of Medical Research at VVMC and the Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona (HVCNA). "This significant medical research taking place in our community is a true testament to the commitment of VVMC and HVCNA to provide the most advanced healthcare to our patients."
