Editorial: Now it's Camp Verde's turn to share the joy of Christmas season

Verde Valley communities do not always do the best job of coordinating their special event calendars.

But when it comes to the Christmas season, Cottonwood and Camp Verde have it down on how to effectively share holiday cheer.

Traditionally on the first weekend in December, Cottonwood and Clarkdale serve as Christmas-season central for the Verde Valley. Events such as Made in Clarkdale, Cottonwood Christmas Parade, Old Town Chocolate Walk and the Verde Valley Voices Christmas Concert usher in the Yuletide season.

The second weekend in December belongs to Camp Verde.

Tonight and Saturday, Fort Verde State Historic Park will host its annual nighttime Candlelight Tours to offer a glimpse of the Christmas season at the historic fort during the Victorian era. Also on Saturday is the Christmas Craft Bazaar from noon to 8 p.m. in the Community Center Gym on Hollamon Street. Beginning at 6 p.m., enjoy the sights of decorated and lighted floats in the annual Parade of Lights on Main Street. To top the weekend off, Verde Valley Ballet will present The Nutcracker Ballet Saturday at 2 p.m., and on Sunday at 3 p.m., at the Camp Verde Multi-Use Theatre located on 280 West Camp Lincoln Road just past Camp Verde High School.

Either by design or just pure luck, residents from both ends of the Verde Valley have the chance to experience the very best the Christmas season has to offer without having to choose one community over the other.

Last weekend, it was Cottonwood and Clarkdale's turn.

This weekend we turn our attention to Camp Verde.
