February - the month of sweethearts and valentines, the first indications of spring along with warmer weather are always a great time of the year.

The Sedona Kiwanis Club sponsors two events for us every year - a Geography Bee and a Spelling Bee. I bet a lot of you remember these contests from when you were in school, they have been around for years.

Our librarian, Tana Williams, is responsible for organizing the events and does a great job. The winner of the Geography Bee is Aiden Beck, a 5th grade student of Mrs. Smith.

He was competing against students in grades three through eight so it is a great accomplishment to come in first as a fifth grader.

The winner of the Spelling Bee is Adam Leili, a junior high student of Mrs. Thorne. I want to thank the Kiwanis Club for maintaining their support of these two activities over the last 15 years.

February is the transition month for us - the junior high basketball teams compete in several end-of-season tournaments in early February, they have had excellent seasons so they are looking forward to the tournaments with high expectations.

And then baseball/softball starts their practices in middle February.

The multi-age classes are going to the Phoenix Zoo thanks to those of you who contributed monies to the Kids Tax Credit program (120 students). This activity comes at the end of a long unit on the animals of the world.

I continue to want Big Park to be an integral member of the Village.

So if anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how we can help in the community, please call the office or stop in and talk to me.

Have a good month and I'll be back for another article in March.
