Cordes Lakes man pleads guilty to sex luring

Jeffrey Balys, a 49-year-old Cordes Lakes man, pled guilty to attempted luring a minor for sexual exploitation, furnishing harmful items to minors and possession of dangerous drugs, all class four felonies, on Thursday, Oct. 23, before Judge Michael Bluff of the Yavapai County Superior Court.

These crimes rose out of a series of Yahoo Messenger chats and messages that Jeffrey Balys sent to an undercover officer posing as a minor between the time period of January 2009 and January 2011. During the time of approximately 32 chat sessions with the undercover officer, Jeffrey Balys offered or solicited to engage in various sexual acts with a person he believed to be 12-14 years of age. Ultimately on January 11, 2011, when Jeffrey Balys sent a web cam picture of his genitalia to the undercover officer, detectives went to his house in Cordes Lakes and arrested him. During a search of the residence, sex toys, a substantial amount of pornography and a small bindle of methamphetamine were found in his home.

Sentencing is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at 9 a.m. before the Honorable Michael Bluff of the Yavapai County Superior Court. Balys will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
