James (Jim) Gertz, 64, of Cottonwood, passed away at home September 5, 2014, following a struggle with cancer.
Jim was born in Rockford, Illinois, on December 21, 1949, and relocated to Cottonwood in 1983, where he met his wife, Gloria. He and Gloria married in 1985.
Jim was a beloved member of the community. He advocated for those in need and was an active and cherished volunteer at Rising Hope Food Pantry, Verde Valley Medical Center, Old Town Mission, and the Youth Department at Emmanuel Fellowship Church. For years, Jim was a cast member in Emmanuel's well-known Easter and Christmas productions.
Jim is survived by his wife, Gloria Gertz, of Cottonwood; their son Andy and his wife Emily, of Cottonwood; Gloria's children: Connie Nunez and her husband Mike, of Roswell, NM; Bobbie Gooslin, of Cottonwood; Dustin Gooslin, of Cottonwood; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his sister Karen Levinbook, of Boulder, CO; as well as nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents as well as his brother Thomas Gertz, of Mesa, AZ, (July 3, 2014).
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a much-loved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held at Emmanuel Fellowship Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13.
