Margaret Amis, age 87, of Cottonwood, passed away on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at her home in Cottonwood.

Margaret was born May 2, 1927 in Sydney, Australia to John and Agnes Carruthers.

Margaret came to the United States in May of 1947 and married the love of her life, Richard W. Amis, on July 27, 1947. Richard and Margaret were happily married for over 56 years. She became a proud citizen of the United States in 1952.

Margaret was a member of the Assembly of God where she ministered as a Sunday school teacher and she also ministered with her husband in a senior citizen ministry for 11 years.

Margaret was a devoted wife and mother and a tremendous woman of faith that touched many lives. Her wisdom, faith and love will be cherished and missed but will continue on through her children and the generations that follow.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Richard W. Amis and her daughter Rose Doreen Amis. She is survived by her three sons Richard Amis JR. of Florence; Larry (Chris) Amis and James (Laura) Amis all of Cottonwood and two daughters Carol Vreeland of Cottonwood and Irene Gooden of Sioux Falls, SD; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret is also survived by her three brothers Ken Carruthers (Barbara), John Carruthers (Pam), Ron Carruthers and one sister Wendy Flynn all residing in Australia.

A memorial to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Cottonwood Christian Assembly, 750 E. Mingus Ave., Cottonwood, AZ 86326.
