Singer-songwriter Matt Miller returns to Vino Di Sedona on Friday July 31, 7-10 p.m.
Miller plays baritone guitar, a 6-stringed instrument tuned between a guitar and a bass, with a broader, longer neck and thicker strings than a conventional guitar; tuned B to B, it is extremely versatile, and very funky. Miller also uses a Bomerang 3 loop pedal, and improvises on flute and lead guitar on many songs.
He's been playing full-time since 2007, and off-and-on since 1998. He won the singer-songwriter competition in the 2006 Sedona Centerpalooza (and has a t-shirt to prove it).
He spent a two years in Europe "studying," teaching English, translating, editing text for non-native English speakers.
He spent a year in grad school in the U of A Math department, where he developed a deep and abiding distaste for academia, teaching, intra-office politics, and elevators.
A long-time resident of Flagstaff, Miller was raised on a hay farm just outside Gettysburg PA, and knows more about cats than people. He became familiar with hard work unloading hay-bales from a wagon by age 7; and has spent most of his adult life avoiding it.
Self-taught, he dabbles in many styles, with a solid core of funk, jazz, and blues. He began touring in 2009, and plays regularly in a dozen states. Samples of Miller's music can be found at www.mattmillerbaritone.bandcamp.com, or simply by googling "matt miller baritone".
