Woman killed trying to help rollover victims

BEAVER CREEK -- The fire and rescue units from Montezuma-Rimrock, Verde Valley, and Sedona Fire Districts were dispatched to a rollover accident on I-17 about one mile south of the rest area at MP 295 about 5:30 Sunday.

The incident started with one-vehicle rollover involving a mother and her infant son. Fortunately, neither of them were injured in the accident.

A vehicle traveling north saw the rollover occur and stopped to help. But, while trying to cross the two lanes of traffic, the woman was struck by another vehicle at a high rate of speed. After unsuccessful attempts to revive her, she passed away before emergency crews arrived on scene.

As a result of the traffic build up, a second rollover happened in the south bound lane. This vehicle rolled into the median landing on all four wheels. The driver was uninjured.

Montezuma-Rimrock Fire District reminds motorists to slow down when approaching and passing accidents scenes.
