Weekend Fun: Clarkdale Lions ready for 5th annual car show
The Clarkdale-Jerome Lions Club expects about 100 cars, trucks and bikes will fill the town of Clarkdale Town Hall parking lot Saturday.
Proceeds from this year's show will go toward the purchase of bullet-proof vests as needed for both the Clarkdale and Jerome police departments, as well as to support Lions Club charities.
The event is free to attend from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and participants can start registering their vehicles for $20 apiece at 8 a.m. People's Choice Awards will be given to the top three entries of the day.
Coffee, donuts, subs, hot dogs, chips, soda and water will be available for purchase. Verde Valley businesses have donated items for a silent auction, and the results of the 50/50 raffle will be announced at 1 p.m.
The Clarkdale Poker Stroll is taking place at the same time in Downtown Clarkdale, hosted by the business alliance. Robyn Prudhomme-Bauer said this is the business districts' contribution to the Lion's Club event.
Participants can stroll through downtown and pick up their cards. The highest hand wins a prize.
"We thought, how can we get involved with that," she said. "And that's how we came back in with the poker stroll, because we know a lot of people will be walking downtown."
