COTTONWOOD -- Verde Valley Homeless Coalition members have set a date for the first large scale full-day homeless outreach event.
Meeting Tuesday, the Coalition scheduled the inaugural Verde Valley Project Connect for Tuesday, September 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Old Town Mission, located at 116 E Pinal in Cottonwood.
During its spring meeting, coalition members agreed to pursue a concept for a full-day event to provide Verde Valley homeless with services and supplies in the same fashion that the Veterans Administration does with its Operation Stand Down in September.
The coalition established three committees to reach out to agencies that would be represented one of the general titles of "Health," "Legal" or "Housing."
A fourth group would be dedicated to advertising and fundraising for the event.
Two people agreed at the organizing meeting to become chairs of the Health and Housing Committees, but more people are needed to head up the Legal and Media committees as well as general members to join those committees.
Eliza Louden, who leads the Verde Valley coalition, says it is a great opportunity for social, religious and education groups to step up and participate in a great project.
Those who would like to serve on or chair a committee should contact Eliza at Catholic Charities before May 15. Call (634) 4254 x 54111 for more information. Louden says there is adequate planning time to make it a success, but more participants are needed.
"This is a great opportunity for social, religious, and educational groups to step up and participate in a great project," says Eliza.
