Shirley Doil passed into her heavenly home on September 24th 2015 at 8:40 AM in Safford, AZ, she was 76 years old.
Born Shirley Ann Allen in June of 1939 in Prescott Arizona she was adopted by her beloved daddy William Jensen and raised in the town of Humboldt by William and Viola Jensen her mother.
She helped pour the floor in the "rock house" in Humboldt and started her married life there with her first husband Joseph Sylvia.
Shirley worked hard her entire life holding jobs ranging from Young's Farm to a girl's school in the Verde Valley. Reata Pass Steak House and the people there became a big part of her life she loved them like family and while she was never on time she was definitely a big part of the history and fun of Reata Pass.
She worked for many years as a cashier at Cliff Castle Casino where again she loved those she worked with like family.
Shirley could tell us the life story of most of the people she worked with, they were all important to her.
Shirley's favorite activity other than talking on the phone or being on Facebook was gambling. She loved spending time in the casino and while she lost often enough she had a lot more luck than most people do.
Money did not mean a lot to her, if she wasn't gambling it she was spending it, but always on other people. She was never stingy with her money or with her love. Shirley lived most of her live in different towns throughout Yavapai County with Humboldt and Camp -Verde being her primary towns of residence. With the exception of a short stint in Montana she spent her entire life in the state of Arizona. She spent her final years living in Safford with her son Jesse Aston.
She lived for her family and being a member of the family did not have a blood requirement for her.
As her children grew up the house was always full of kids and she was a second mom to half of the neighborhood in Humboldt. A friend on Facebook remarked "She was a mom, sister, aunt, grandma to every kid in Humboldt."
Shirley was married 7 times; first to Joseph Sylvia, next to her high school sweetheart Richard Aston, Manual Quijada, Frank Smith, Ralph Barkhimer, Ronny Vanderbough and Alton Doil.
"I've had a wonderful life; I've had many boyfriends, many husbands and many children. I couldn't have asked for a better life." Shirley 2015
Shirley was preceded in death by her 7th husband Alton Doil, her son Richard (Teddy) Aston, her brothers Ralph Jensen and Jim Jensen and two grandchildren. She is survived by Joseph (Bill) Aston, Jesse Aston, Melvin Aston, Cindy Aston, Wanda (Smith) Schmidt and Kathleen (Barkhimer) Clark, 25 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren along with numerous stepchildren.
Shirley's legacy of giving did not end with her passing. She donated her body to the University of Arizona for research. Her greatest hope was that the donation of her body would lead to a cure for the disease she suffered from, Myelofibrosis. There is currently no cure.
Her family has been assured that her donation will lead to research on areas that were very important to her.
The family will hold a celebration of Shirley's life on 10/10/2015 at 1:00 pm at The Bill Gates Ranch in Mayer, 11200 South Jefferson Street, Mayer Arizona 86333 (call for directions), we would love for friends and family to join us to share happy memories of Shirley.
