COTTONWOOD - After suffering their first loss of the year last Friday, the Mingus Marauders traveled down to Greenway to take on the Demons.

Shadows was the first victim of the strong Mingus defense, only allowing them to score 15 points in the first week.

Greenway ended up putting up a little more of a fight the Marauders to their lowest scoring total of the season.

The Marauders were able to jump on the board first though in Greenway when at the seven-minute mark, senior running back Anthony Accurso scampered his way into the back of the end zone from 8-yards out to get the scoring started.

This was Accurso' s only carry of the night as the ball was spread around on the ground, with a total of six Marauders getting carries.

Senior Alec Phyfer led the way for the Marauders gaining 121 yards rushing over 9 carries.

The Demons got on the board when Demon Quarterback James Gibbs found wide out Anthony Foster for a 12-yard touchdown at the 10:28 mark in the second quarter. Juan Ruiz added another touchdown for Mingus on the ground putting the visiting team back on top.

The Marauders would add on three more points at the 3:17 mark before half when Trey Meyer put one through the uprights from 21 yards out.

The Marauders went into the half up 17-7 and never looked back. Meyer added another field goal in the third quarter this time from 27-yards out to put the Marauders up 20-7.

The Demons tried to mount a comeback late in the second half. Senior wide out Jared Kenyon scampered his way into the back of the end zone from 4-yards out.

Brandon Gerle added on the extra point to bring the Demons within a touchdown with seven minutes and 16 seconds left in the game. Mingus was able to hold the Demons back from mounting a comeback and hold on for their 3rd victory of the season.

Mingus Quarterback Jordan Upham led the way in attempts on the ground for the Marauders racking up 53 yards on 13 carries.

Ruiz added 70 yards to the run game and senior Tristan Clark added 38 on 8 carries.

The Marauders racked up a total of 323 all-purpose yards on the night.

On the defensive side of the ball, Pete Kelly brought down the Demons quarterback twice throughout the game.

And Juan Ruiz took away one of his pass attempts for an interception, his first of the season.

Junior Jordan Vincent also added a fumble recovery to the Marauders defensive stat line. The Marauders are now 3-1 on the season. They will return home next week, for their 4th home game of the season to take on Moon Valley.
