Just after 8 p.m. Monday, the Cottonwood Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the 1500 block of East Mingus Avenue.

Fire crews found a small residential structure on fire with flames visible from a block away. The structure was an unoccupied residence on the east side of a large lot that contains four residential homes. The fire had spread to the exterior of an adjacent, and, also unoccupied, mobile home also on the property.

The fire was controlled by firefighters within 30 minutes, however the fire took about an hour to fully extinguish. There was fire and smoke damage throughout the residence and fire damage to the exterior of the adjacent mobile home.

While the fire cause is still under investigation, initial evidence indicates that the fire is suspicious in nature.
