Work continues for better access, equity to Yavapai College

At the March 1st meeting of Yavapai College's (YC) District Governing Board (DGB), Al Filado, our District 3 member, made a motion that the DGB hire an independent consultant to look at options to improve the access and equity of YC classes in the Verde Valley to better serve Verde Valley residents.

It was seconded by Deb MCasland, the District 2 member. Unfortunately, the other three board members were focused on the option of a separate administrative college and the motion was voted down 3 to 2.

The Board also voted to increase tuition at that meeting.

When the YC's Advisory Committee met March 2nd, we discussed ways to continue our work of improving access and equity to YC courses in the Verde Valley in light of the DGB votes the previous day.

We will continue to gather your answers to our five-question survey until the end of April. You can answer them online at http://goo.gl/forms/ACf8a72dMi. Let me know if you want a paper copy.

I would also urge you to attend the Board's next regular meeting on April 19th at 1 p.m. at the Sedona campus of Yavapai College, 4215 Arts Village Drive, tel: 928-649-4275 if you need directions. We need better access and equity to Yavapai College for our Verde Valley residents and it starts with your input.
