Marlys Goldie (Mrs. Almond) Peterson, age 89, of Webster, SD, formerly of Cottonwood, AZ, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Sanford Hospital in Webster.

Marlys was born on August 31, 1927, in Webster, to Nicholas and Josephine (Leegard) Bury.

She attended a country school and graduated from Webster High School.

Marlys worked at Wist Produce, Beresford Children's Home and Dakota Independent Inc.

She then attended LBI Lutheran School in Minneapolis, MN, for three years. Marlys taught Bible School at District 187 for two weeks.

The first week she stayed at the Henry Peterson place and met Almond, the love of her life.

On June 17, 1951, Marlys was united in marriage to Almond Peterson at Butler, SD.

They were married for 65 years. They lived at the Ted Haugen's Place for three years and then moved to the Ole Amundson Homestead.

Almond and Marlys built a home in Cottonwood, AZ. They resided there during the winter months since 1975, making many friends over the years.

She was actively involved in teaching Sunday school and was a member of the Ladies Aid and Women's Bible Study.

She enjoyed embroidering and quilting.

Marlys is survived by her husband, Almond; her children: Paul Peterson of Webster, SD, Pamela (John) Korn of Seattle, WA, Gloria (Steve) Short of Cottonwood, AZ, Clarice Amegashie of Anoka, MN, and Karla (Monte) Reimer of Camp Verde, AZ; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her sister, Fern Westby of Groton, SD; and her brother, Marvin Bury of Webster, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant sister; and many aunts and uncles.

An announcement will be made at a later date for a memorial service.
