VERDE VALLEY - The Verde Valley Regional Economic Organization (VVREO) presents 'The Verde Valley - Success in Action' Oct. 21 at the Clark Memorial Clubhouse, when Jim Rounds, president, Rounds Consulting Group, provides an overview of Arizona's economy as well as key trends and forecasts for the Verde Valley.
"I want it to be meaningful and not just dump data. The key is more storytelling, explaining things in much better context than they typically get from an economist," said Rounds.
"I don't get into the minutia on details. I explain how things tie together, what to look for to give people perspective on the economy so it can help with their planning," he said.
Rounds advises public and private policymakers throughout the state, including elected officials and private and public sector leaders.
His accomplishments include designing state tax policy and economic development reforms, analysis of transportation infrastructure investments, strategic analysis related to local government economic and fiscal forecasting, community marketing and state and local area tourism planning.
To further encourage economic growth in the Verde Valley, Rounds believes the key is creating a partnership among three distinct roles: Economists, economic developers and policy analysts.
"Economists provide the data, economic developers give perspective on what kind of actions can grow regionally and policy analysts describe how potential changes might affect things," said Rounds.
"You can't just look at it from one perspective. You have to view it from multiple hats in order to provide legitimate recommendations. Its more than one or two things that makes an economy tick," he said.
Rounds serves on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Association for Economic Development and is a member of the Joint Legislative Budget Committee's Finance Advisory Committee, the Maricopa Association of Governments' Economic Development Committee, the Arizona Economic Roundtable and the Surface Transportation Funding Task Force. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Economics from Arizona State University.
