The VOCA House & Grounds Committee is planning a Grand Opening event for Saturday October 15 to formally open the courts and to acquaint the community with this fantastic new amenity in VOCA-Kiwanis Park.
The newly remodeled VOCA tennis/pickleball courts opened for play on September 6, 2016. Beginners' pickleball clinics were held on September 10, 17 and 24, and almost 100 people participated.
There are two courts, one of which is tennis-only and the other is dual striped and can be used as one tennis court or four pickleball courts. For scheduling purposes, the dual-use court will be pickleball-only from 7am to 11am on Sunday, Mondays, Wednesday and Thursday, and tennis-only from 7am to 11am on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
The VOCA office will administer Court reservations. A two-tier fee structure has been established to pay for the renovations, with lower fees for VOCA residents.
Annual memberships will be available to VOCA residents for $150 single $200 family, and non-VOCA residents for $200 single, $250 family. A day use pass can also be purchased for $4 per person.
The Grand Opening Event will be held Saturday October 15 from noon to 3pm in the VOCA-Kiwanis Park. In addition to a formal ribbon cutting, the event will include a "community forum" to discuss plans for the operation of the courts and 2017 membership options, solicit ideas from the community on how we can make the courts more valuable to members, and to answer questions.
An orientation to pickleball will also be provided for those who are interested in learning more about the sport but were unable to attend one of the September beginner clinics.
