Letter: You don’t have to agree, but free speech is still vital and important

Editor:

As I’ve been watching the news, what has upset me more than anything are the violent protests by the “Radical Left” because they are harming people and buildings.

I don’t care that they protest but do it in peace and be civil about it. What happened in Berkeley when Milos Yiannopoulous was going to plan to speak is wrong because all the “Radical Left” had to do was not be there when he was going to speak and not cause violence.

I don’t care that the “Radical Left” protest but do it in peace and not cause violence. The “Radical Left” also need to learn about freedom of speech too since they were so violent over the thought Milos Yiannopoulous was going to speak there.

Get over it. This is the United States of America where free speech, religion, and press need to happen each day. Allow a dissenting viewpoint to be at a campus since it gives students a chance to discern their political beliefs, since everyone has different political beliefs due to experiences, culture, along with other things. “Can’t We Just All Get Along” Rodney King

I agree totally about the evil of violent protest. There's no place for it in American political expression. That being said, I'd like to know specifically who is behind this violence. Is it spontaneous? Is it organized from the left out of frustration? Is it organized from the right to make the left look bad? I have no idea. The right has a lot to gain by the negative press the left receives from such actions. On the other hand, the left is committing political suicide and undermining their fundamental values if they're responsible. I'd like to see an FBI investigation into the who is responsible, and I'd like to see the harshest possible penalties given to same. Whatever the outcome, I'd like to see both sides stop conflating the values of the other side with every violent action that takes place. Dems are no more responsible, as an entity, for protest violence than are Reps, as an entity, for mosque burnings. I'd like to see leading Dems condemn the one and leading Reps, including our President, condemn the other.

For $200K Berkeley will award a degree to a Chimpanzee.

For even less, so would Trump U.

I agree. Whether these were students or outside provocateurs, it was absolutely wrong. It's worth mentioning that the "radical left" does not speak for all of us, any more than the so-called alt-right speaks for all conservatives.

Correct, Derek.

Now, write a letter to trump and explain the same to him.

Be sure to tweet the message. That way there's a better chance that he'll see it.
