Letter: Already longing for the days of President Obama

Editor:

I miss him dearly. He was the epitome of class, grace, forbearance, and integrity. He withstood the slings and arrows with patience and understanding. He loves his wife to whom he has been faithful, and raises his children to be good citizens in this country. And he was hip.

Under his leadership, the world was a stable place compared to what we face now. His successor is just the opposite in all these respects. I miss my President.

He and his first lady escorted Melania Trump into the White House after she was left in the limo by her husband. My President left office with the highest approval rating of any President in recent memory.

His successor entered with the lowest approval rating of any President in history.

For my President I was proud to stand for the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem. I refuse to stand for either as long as his successor occupies the White House. I miss Barack Obama; he was my President. The current resident of the White House is not.

Like any human being, he had his faults. But he wasn't in bed with Russia, and he wasn't a Leninist.

Maybe not Russia, but perhaps Cuba who has an abominable record of human rights violations and oppression. And I believe Castro was a self proclaimed Marxist and Leninist. Oh, and one last thing, Obama wanted to lift all of the embargoes against Cuba last year, but thankfully congress kept him in check......sans Rum and cigars.

Not me! Unfortunately I'm limited to 200 words so let's try and recap what he actually did. The list is much larger but you'll get a good idea of this mans incompetency.

1 A 20% record number of Americans wene on food stamps in 2013 2 Our nation lost it's AAA rating because of debt 3 Taxpayers lost 25 billion dollars from Obamas bailout of GM and Chrysler 4 Obamas admin gave guns to the Cartel that were used to murder 100's and 1 BP agent 5 Obamacare is taking 100's of Billions out of Medicare to fund Obamacare 6 Fewer Americans work today than in 2000 even the US Pop. has grown by 31 mil. 7 Number of Americans on welfare has hit record high 8 Over 11 mil. Americans on disability 9 Cash for Clunkers did nothing but increase the cost of used cars 10 5 Americans died in Benghazi because of his incompetent Administration

1) Sure, the number of food stamp recipients peaked in 2013, but to use that number to describe Obama's success or failure is dishonest. The increase in FS use over the decade was a direct result of the great recession, and the number has decreased significantly from 2013 to 2016. 2) Our nation lost its credit rating as a direct result of Republican threats to shut down the government. 3) The auto makers paid back every dime of the money they got from the US Gov. 4) Disproven many times over . . . 5) Obamacare actually increased Medicare's viability by eight years and took nothing from existing and future Medicare recipients. 6) Hardly a fair statement since it includes the Bush W years. About 10 million jobs were added during the Obama administration. 7) and 8) You're right on these, although the numbers have been trending downward since 2013. 9) The program gave a short-term boost to the economy, which it was designed to do, and helped the environment, if you care about such. 10) How many Republican-led investigatory committees assigned no blame?

Everything is relative. I am no fan of Obama, I think his tenure did more harm than good....but.....compared to the monster we have in the White House now, I would take him in a heartbeat.

Hope you still feel the same way when prices are climbing, inflation is nearing double digits, we're in conflicts around the world, and Putin is well on the way to restoring his empire.

Ah, yes, "Leninist" Corporatism: "From each according to what they've got, to each according to what they give." (Remind me again who gave the most and to whom.)

Obama did fine job convincing the Brits they should vote for Brexit, but it's still possible the global corporatists will win in the politicized courts and tarnish his legacy.
