A discarded match is believed to be the cause of a vehicle fire on Thousand Trails Road off SR 260 between Cottonwood and Camp Verde Sunday morning.

Verde Valley Fire District crews were called to blaze at 8:55 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, fire crews found a fully involved pickup truck.

Crews deployed an attack line and extinguished the fire, said Fire Chief Nazih Hazime. A water tender was also utilized for additional water source.

The owner of the vehicle suffered minor burns and was treated on scene, said Hazime. There were no other injuries and the cause of the fire appeared to be an accident from a discarded match after lighting his cigarette.

Verde Valley Fire District would like to remind everyone to make sure all ignition sources are completely out before discarding and metal containers are ideal for discarding matches and smoke items.
