Camp Verde girls soccer rebounds at Payson

Cowboys bounce back Tuesday with 8-0 victory

Camp Verde High girls soccer rebounded with an 8-0 victory at Payson.

The No. 7 Cowboys (11-3-1, 2-3 Central) saw their four game win streak end with their 2-1 loss to No. 3 Chino Valley on Oct. 3 but bounced back with comfortable win at No. 10 Payson on Tuesday.

“Everyone played really good even the girls that don’t play much,” said Camp Verde head coach Javier Pineda. “They had their opportunity to play and they play really well. After 5 goals we had the girls work on our passing and trapping because I don’t like to run the score too much and ‘cause we really need to work more in our trapping and passing.”

Alex Schaeffer led the way with two goals and Lupe Orta, Eliana Paniagua, Brina Church, Bridgette Fitzgerald, Tyra Smith and Alondra Fowler each scored once.

“In all it was a good victory,” Pineda said.

The Cowboys close at the regular season at No. 9 Page on Oct. 17 and at No. 3 Chino Valley on Oct. 19.
