Caring Hearts of Sedona’s 15th year in business is quite an accomplishment for an independent company in today’s economy. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), 50 percent of businesses fail during the first five years and 66 percent during the first ten.
Theresa Weber is owner of Caring Hearts of Sedona, and according to her mother, Gloria Weber, her daughter’s heart for seniors, along with her tenacity, contributes heavily to its success. Gloria recalls that even as a very young child, Theresa gravitated toward older adults. “You’d always find Theresa enjoying their conversation. She was also determined and has never shied away from hard work."
Family is important to Theresa, who initially helped care for her maternal grandmother after a stroke. Later volunteering at a skilled nursing facility and then becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), she worked for various senior facilities in the Cleveland area.
Theresa joined her parents after their move to Sedona in 2000, continuing her work as a CNA at assisted living and skilled nursing facilities, and eventually in 2003, Caring Hearts of Sedona was launched.
For the first three years, she ran the business herself -- all while continuing to work at various local facilities and as an independent caregiver for families in the area. As Caring Hearts of Sedona got busier, she hired additional caregivers and a part-time bookkeeper to keep up with the demand.
Caring Hearts of Sedona provides non-medical assistance in individual residences and various types of independent and skilled nursing facilities. The company takes on all the responsibilities of general liability insurance as well as workers’ compensation insurance. Theresa says, “Our focus is to provide the best service and to care for our clients as if they were our family members.”
