2016 CVUSD Spelling Bee

Students in fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades at Camp Verde Unified School District competed Dec. 8 in the district’s annual spelling bee. Camp Verde Elementary School fifth grade student Matthew Piper successfully spelled the word peculiar to become the district’s fifth grade winner, while Daniela Vega won in the middle school category by spelling the word jackrabbit. Winners will compete in the Yavapai Country Spelling Bee at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at the district’s Phillip England Center for the Performing Arts. Winners of the county bee will compete at 1 p.m. March 25 at the Arizona Spelling Bee at Arizona State University’s downtown campus. Winners of the state bee will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee June 1 in Washington, D. C. (Photos by Bill Helm)
