2017 Special Olympics Bocce

“Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” That is the motto of the Special Olympics. On Sept. 29 at the home of Camp Verde residents Allan and Judy Roughton, dozens of Special Olympians competed in the Bocce Regional Tournament’s Mountain Area regionals of the Special Olympics. Whether in Italian or American English, bocce is a bowling game played on natural or asphalt courts. Competitors included several residents of Rainbow Acres. Known by the Camp Verde-based social services facility as ranchers, Rainbow Acres’ residents were like the home team as the Mountain Area regionals served as a qualifying event, as winners will move on to the Special Olympics state games. Winners at the state games would qualify for the Special Olympics USA Games. (Photos by Bill Helm)
