Sedona Kids Company will soon host Sedona author, Jim Pryke, at a book signing event in its Uptown store. Mr. Pryke will present his first book, Herman Hummingbird’s Harrowing Adventure, a delightful, illustrated children’s book featuring the stunning artwork of Scott Stine, also a Sedona resident. The story, which takes place in Sedona and the red rock country, is based on an event that took place in Pryke’s West Sedona residence. Herman, a rare, to Northern Arizona, Broad Billed Hummingbird, caught up in his sense of curiosity, gets trapped in Pryke’s townhouse and struggles desperately to escape and return to his mate, Henrietta. At 71 years of age, Pryke uses his thirty years of experience as an English and French teacher as well as his skill as an editor to craft a compelling story of Herman’s fear and the compassion of the white haired old man. He is currently working on both a prequel and a sequel to Herman Hummingbird’s Harrowing Adventure. Stine demonstrates his skill as a digital artist with his intricate depictions of the Broad Billed Humingbird as well as the surrounding red rocks. Besides being an interesting read for children up to eight or nine years of age, the book is a wonderful introduction to hummingbirds. It also can be purchased as a beautiful souvenir of Sedona. The book signing will take place on Saturday, December 2, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Visitors to the store will be encouraged to make a contribution to the Hummingbird Society.
