Join Dr. Don Teater for two informational discussions on Opioids and the treatment of pain. These presentations take place on Tuesday, May 29 at the Cottonwood Public Library. The first session is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and is called “Managing Pain in Dentistry.” Arizona is battling a growing opioid epidemic. Each provider plays an important role in combating this crisis. During this breakfast learning opportunity, Dr. Don Teater, MD, MPH, will be discussing the dentist’s role in opioid prescribing. This presentation will include the four types of pain and the most effective treatments for each type. Scientific data on opioid use disorder will also be presented. The next session, “Opioid Background,” takes place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During this community presentation, Dr. Don Teater will discuss the different types of pain and their treatment options. He will provide insight into the significance of the drug overdose crisis. In June 2017, Governor Doug Ducey declared a state of emergency due to the opioid epidemic within the state. Members of the community are encouraged to attend and potentially make a positive impact on this growing epidemic. Dr. Don Teater, MD, MPH, is a board certified Family Practitioner from western North Carolina. He has worked with individuals and communities to prevent and treat opioid dependence since 2004. His work includes acting as the Medical Provider for the National Safety Council, developer for the CDC Guidelines for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain, and participant in the WHO’s Second Technical Consultation on Drug Use and Road Safety. Both presentations take place in the Dede Ewald Room. The library is located at 100 S 6th St in Cottonwood. For more information on library services please visit www.ctwpl.info.
