City, newspaper sponsor photo contest

The City of Cottonwood Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with the Verde Independent will be sponsoring the 1st Annual "Amateur Photo Exhibit Contest" at the Cottonwood Library. The Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting photos from amateur photographers until November 21st, 2000. Entry forms can be picked up at the Cottonwood Parks and Recreation Department, 791 North Main Street, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am. till 5:00 p.m. Great Prim are being offered by the Department which have been donated by Art's Shutterbug, Osco Drug, Walmart and Walgreens Stores of Cottonwood.

The Cottonwood Parks and Recreation Department is also awarding 1st through 3rd Place Ribbons plus will be presenting the overall winners of the Black & White Category and the Color Category with a $50.00 Grand Prize check. Also, winners of each of the eight theme categories will receive $20.00 cash awards.

The different categories are as follows: Color photos of 1) Children; 2) Scenic Landscapes, 3) Animals; 4) Scenes from the Verde Valley. Black and White photos of 1) Children, 2) Scenic Landscapes, 3) Animals, Scenes from the Verde Valley. Photos must have been taken within one calendar year prior to the contest. Entry fees are $3.00 per photograph entered with a maximum of eight entries per person (I per photo category). All entries must be no larger than 10"x12" and each photo must be mounted on a mat board no larger than 14"x16"'. Framed photos will not be accepted.

Final judging will take place, Monday night, November 27th, 2000, after 5:00 p.m. All entries will be displayed at the Cottonwood Library lobby area, Monday, November 27, through Friday, December 1st, from 9:30 am. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Once again, the contest is strictly for Amateur Photographers (one who derives less than 5% of their gross income from Photography). Snap shots way be taken with any make of camera.
