Charlie German seeks another term after 12 years on Camp Verde School Board

The Camp Verde School Board has three seats open with two incumbents and four candidates vying for those seats.

Looking to retain his current position is Charlie German. German has served three terms (12 years) with the Camp Verde School .

"We have some projects that are already under way," he said. "I have a high interest in student achievement and also accountability. We have just started our new program of teacher evaluation and articulation of the curriculum, which is an ongoing process. We have taken advantage of grants for the development of our curriculum and teacher evaluation model, and of Student’s First for the construction of our new elementary. I think a continuation with that and with my expertise in education, I think the board can benefit."

German has worked as a school teacher in Camp Verde and currently at Dr. Daniel Bright Elementary in Cottonwood. He brings a large educational component to the school district. He describes himself as a person who is well-versed in understanding classroom and middle management as well as teachers, principals, and parents.

"I am coming in multi-faceted," he said. "I really have a love and passion for education and would love to continue to work for the people of Camp Verde."

During his 12 years with Camp Verde schools, German has seen a lot of new construction and growth in the district. He also has been adamant about staying on top of legislative issues, setting policy, assisting in the hiring of teachers and administration, and helping to improve academics.

"We are not where I’d like to be right now, but we are addressing it in a more stringent way as is the whole state of Arizona. Our main push is to get our scores up. Right now they aren’t acceptable. We need to adjust the curriculum, provide teacher training in addition to what they come out of college with and training for longer term teachers. We also need to focus on how we can communicate as a school with our community.

"Not everybody takes the newspaper so the real challenge is how can you improve that communication by utilizing the manpower we have without having to do as larger districts do and hire a private consultant to do public relations. I think it is really important for the community to be aware of what is happening at the schools"

As for school financing, German is currently working on promoting Proposition 301. He believes the proposition is important to the future of school funding.

German has three children, all are graduates from Camp Verde schools.
