Mingus fall baseballers fare well
A group of Mingus Union High School baseball players competed in a fall wood bat league over the past few months.
The Marauder group earned an 11-2-1 record, second place in the North Division behind Bradshaw Mountain (11-1-1) and ahead of Sinagua (9-4), Coconino (4-8), Flagstaff (2-10) and Chino Valley (1-7). Varsity chief Brad Grauberger coached the Mingus fall team.
Marauder Cody Helgeson was the winning pitcher in the first ever Arizona PrepZone Fall All-star game, held earlier this month. Helgeson pitched the South to a 12-11 triumph. The North led early, but the South rallied. Bradshaw's Bobby Beauchamp recorded the save.
Other Mingus players on the all-star roster included Devlin McCarty, Trey Morrison, Buck Taylor and Jeff Robinson.

Mingus Union's Trey Morrison earned co-MVP honors with Sinagua's Adam Puffenberger at the Junior Invitational Tournament in October. Morrison and Puffenberger both had eight hits in a four-game set.
Morrison blasted a 400-foot home run against the Utah Baseball Academy White team. Marauder pitcher Jeff Robinson gave six solid innings of work from the mound during the tournament, according to Grauberger.
Other Mingus players who performed stellar included Taylor, Helgeson, Andrew Coffey and John Wixom, "(They) looked good playing against top-notch Baseball Academy kids from all over the Southwestern U.S," Grauberger said.
The Arizona PrepZone team, which included players from Mingus, Sinagua, Coconino and Page, finished the junior tournament 1-3. Two losses came by one run. The win came against Utah Baseball Academy's Blue Team 8-7.

Paul LoDuca will hold a baseball camp in Sedona over Thanksgiving weekend. The cost is between $200-250 per player. For more information, call 1-888-233-7395. Grauberger will serve as an instructor during the sessions.

Arizona PrepZone will hold an instructional clinic for young players in January. The specific dates haven't been set yet, but players will get a chance to learn from Ralph Dickenson, a hitting instructor for the L.A. Dodgers.

Arizona PrepZone's fall 12-and-under season ended this past weekend at a Veteran's Day tournament in Glendale. The AZPZ Renegades finished the event 1-3, making their overall record for the fall 4-4.
PrepZone beat the Durango Sidewinders 11-8 and dropped games to the Phoenix Yankees 6-2, the Arizona Sidewinders 12-2 and the Arizona Stars 11-1.
