Sue Szot from KGCB radio station, known as Arizona's Lighthouse, presents Al Slusser with a special "Education With CLASS" award Friday morning at the United Christian School. The school for grades K-6 is located at 903 W. Finnie Flats Rd. in Camp Verde.
Sue Szot presented Al Slusser, director of the Camp Verde school, the "Education With CLASS (Christian Leadership and Scholastic Success)" award at an early-morning ceremony in the school's chapel March 8. According to both Szot and Slusser, this award was a special honor given to only eight Christian schools out of 125 in Arizona within the station's listening area. Szot said they highlight eight schools throughout the school year, one a month.
"I think this is a great honor for the school to receive this award. It shows the efforts on the part of the teachers and staff to reach our school goal of glorifying God in all that we do," an appreciative Slusser said.
Szot told the audience of parents, students and teachers that the school will be featured in April on the Christian broadcast station. Slusser will do a guest spot on its early-morning show that will "probably air April 24" Szot said.
One student from grades K-6 was also picked and the names announced at the Friday morning event to act as representatives for the school. The children will go with Slusser to the radio station to do a special taped segment.
"We record children's voices and then feature the school, their goals and include some of student's voices played on air seven days a week (during April). They will get 20 on-air mentions, rotated at various times," Szot said.
KGCB can be found on channel 90.9 FM. According to Szot, the radio station is the most powerful Christian radio broadcasting station in Arizona heard from north of Flagstaff to south of Phoenix.
