Blood drive a success thanks to you
Thanks to all who helped our June blood drive be successful. We had 72 donors answer the call. In spite of a few having to be deferred, we had 58 good units collected. United Blood Services always counts on, and appreciates our Verde Valley donors, especially with the serious shortage recently Along with many faithful regular donors, we had quite a few new faces and hope to see you all again. Thank you.
Those who give of their time and always are there to help with calling donors to make appointments, putting up posters, helping man the sign-in table, and setting up beforehand, are Nick and Arlene Chronis, Edna Rask, Henry Ellison, Jeannine Stephan.
Then we have the ladies who bake goods for refreshments: Julia Izzo, Jeannine, Suzanne Carlson, Lil Krautbauer, and Edna Rask. We received juices and cookies from Bashas' Greg Elmer and Troy Dix, to round it out.
We are grateful to them and to all the merchants who allow us to post our posters in their windows, the American Legion Post who sponsor and let us use their hall, and VFW Post who also sponsor and donate the $20 for the door prize. The lucky winner was Shirley Robertson this time.
Last, but not least, thank you to the Bugle and Verde Independent for publishing our articles announcing the upcoming blood drives. Blood drives are a combined effort and could not be accomplished without each person doing their part in the preparation and on the day of the drive.

Ice Cream Social a big success once again
The Clark Memorial Library staff and volunteers wish to thank all the people who made our Fourth of July Ice Cream Social a success again this year.
To Lou Benassi at Fry’s, Marc DeVlieger at Bashas', Jerry Butterbrodt at Safeway, Lisa Granados at Wal-Mart and Brenda Shelton at Osco: Thank you all for your help. Without you, we couldn’t have held the social at all.
To those wonderful cooks who brought baked goods: Thank you. We couldn’t have held it without you either.
To everyone who made other donations, those who gave their time, and of course our “satisfied customers, we appreciate you all very much. It was a wonderful day and we look forward to seeing you next year, same time, same place.
The Ice Cream Social is one of only two fund-raising events the Clarkdale Library holds each year. The proceeds will go toward special programs that are now in the planning stage. One program being set up is the delivery of books to those people who cannot get to the library due to illness or handicap. Any Clarkdale resident who would like to be a part of this program or would like to help with delivery may call the library at 634-9760.
