19 seek three Y-A Nation council seats
The Yavapai-Apache Nation will hold a General Election on Sept. 20, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
There are 19 eligible candidates running for three seats on the Yavapai-Apache Council. Outgoing council members are Norman Smith, Harry Hood and Buddy Rocha Sr.
Smith is not eligible to run for re-election because he has already served two consecutive terms. Hood and Rocha are seeking second terms.
In the running besides Hood and Rocha are Christine Cook, Frieda Eswonia, Billy Garner, Beverly Joann Grey, Larry Jackson, Stanley Jackson, Myron Johnson, Donna Nightpipe, Roberta Pavatea, Sammy Rabino, Vincent Randall, Maureen Romero, Darlene Rubio, Dennis Sine, Teresa Spurgeon, Carol Williams and Earl Beauty.
According to election official Robin Hazelwood, Hood, Nightpipe, Randall, Rocha, Romero, Rubio, Stanley Jackson and Spurgeon have all served on the tribal council previously. Vincent Randall is a former chairman.
There are three voting precincts, one in Middle Verde at the Social Services building; another at the Camp Verde old Food Bank building and at the Senior Citizens building in Clarkdale.
