Mural: Community Connections

THE Goodwill Building on Mingus Avenue in Cottonwood, now has one wall covered with a mural. Design work began about one year ago, and actual painting began March 8. The project was completed on March 19.

During the design process, between 15 and 25 people met and conducted activities to develop a deeper understanding of the word community, according to Bourque. Those ideas were then included in the design of the mural. During the design process, Bourque said the planning and zoning people were helpful. "I was really pleased with their cooperation," she said.

That design is now a reality. "We have a design, but we were willing to let the design process evolve," Bourque said.

"I hope this is the first of many," she said, admitting that she always has her eyes open for a great place to paint another mural. "I still see blank canvases everywhere."
