"We took in $10,120," explained board Treasurer Jim Ash following Saturday night's Denim and Lace Dinner/Auction. This is the fourth year that the endowment group has been involved in the fundraiser at the Lodge in Camp Verde. "The Cliff Castle Casino donated all the meals and the hall, and we sold 158 tickets," said Ash.

Gavel in hand, Dr. D. G. Campbell, director of a local charter school, again acted as auctioneer selling off original artwork, jewelry, clothing, gift certificates, food items, fishing and hunting gear, memberships, game and show tickets, and much, much more. At least 100 items were donated by local businesses and individuals for the silent and live auctions that took place right after the delicious buffet dinner prepared by Lodge Chef Jerry Jordan.

"First of all I think it's indicative that so many were in attendance who were first here four years ago," commented President Phil England. "I think it shows a continuous support for the endowment fund. The figure raised is the largest number so far. Our main function is to serve as a conduit or vessel for people who want to make contributions. We're looking at assisting the town once a new library is completed by providing resources and equipment for the function of the library."

The Camp Verde Library Endowment was started in early 2000 by concerned citizens who wanted to establish a fund to help the Town of Camp Verde replace the existing library structure that no longer adequately services the growing community. Later that same year, they qualified in the Yavapai County Community Foundation, which is under the umbrella of the Arizona Community Foundation giving them tax-exempt status.

Library administrators and the town are currently seeking a gift of five acres in the proposed Verde Cliffs development off Cliffs Parkway Drive for its new library site.

The CVLE is currently seeking volunteers, private donations and corporate partners to help raise funds to build a new library for the Camp Verde area. Donations may be sent to: Camp Verde Library Endowment, c/o Jim Ash, treasurer, 295 Hereford Dr., Camp Verde AZ 86322.
